Water Supply: Large underground tanks, municipal water lines, or reservoirs that guarantee an uninterrupted, high-capacity water source.
Fire Pumps: Often a trio of pumps:
Jockey Pump: Maintains constant baseline water pressure within the pipes.
Electric Pump: The primary motorized pump that delivers high volumes of water during an emergency.
Diesel Pump: A backup power pump used if grid electricity fails.
Piping Network: A continuous ring main system that distributes water throughout a facility. It branches out to strategic interior risers and exterior hydrants.
Hydrant Valves & Hose Reels: The physical delivery points where firefighters attach hoses, or where building occupants can manually access water in an emergency.
Types of Hydrants
Wet Barrel Hydrants: Always filled with pressurized water up to the valves. They are typically installed in warm climates where water freezing is not a concern.
Dry Barrel Hydrants: The water valve is kept underground, below the frost line, leaving the above-ground barrel empty. When the hydrant is opened, water flows up and into the hose
